With the US presidential election rapidly approaching, the world’s richest man Elon Musk has announced he will interview Republican nominee Donald Trump on Monday (Aug 12) evening.
The presidential candidate first teased this through a press conference on Thursday and now Musk has shared the news.
“Live conversation on X with @realDonaldTrump & me at 8pm ET tomorrow.”

In another follow-on tweet, he says: “This is unscripted with no limits on subject matter, so should be highly entertaining!
“If you have specific questions & comments, post them under the chat.”
The livestream will be made possible through the Spaces feature, allowing people to have a live audio conversation on the platform. This event will be hosted on Donald Trump’s account and accessible to anyone
Many live videos have taken place on that platform, but as this will draw significant crowds there could be concerns about how the technology will hold up.
In May 2023, Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida chose to launch his presidential campaign on X but the attempt was quickly ridiculed as he encountered several technical difficulties. The stream was glitchy, echoey, and laden with awkward pauses.
“Am going to do some system scaling tests tonight & tomorrow in advance of the conversation with @realDonaldTrump,” wrote Elon ahead of the live event.
Elon Musk’s changing politics
South Africa-born Elon Musk, who became a U.S. citizen in 2002, has stated that he predominantly voted for Democrats for many years. However, he grew disillusioned with President Biden on a variety of issues, including his opposition to unionization efforts among his car workers and feeling slighted after not being invited to the 2021 White House electric vehicle summit – despite Tesla being one of the world’s largest EV manufacturers.
During the Biden administration, Musk’s companies were subjected to multiple federal investigations concerning employment practices, his acquisition of Twitter, and claims related to Tesla’s autopilot feature.
In a November 2023 interview with The New York Times, Musk mentioned that he would not vote for Biden again but hesitated to endorse Trump, acknowledging, “This is definitely a difficult choice here.”
After the assassination attempt on Trump in July, Musk stated he fully endorsed the Republican’s re-election bid.
