LaLiga — Spain’s leading soccer league — selected BitGet as its official cryptocurrency partner in some regions.
According to a Sept. 19 BitGet announcement, the collaboration was first unveiled at the Token2049 summit in Singapore. The value of the partnership was not revealed but simply described as being a “multi-million deal.” Gracy Chen, CEO at Bitget said:
“Partnering with LALIGA allows us to accelerate the growth of crypto in sports.”
The details we know
During an interview with industry news outlet The Block Bitget Chief Operating Officer Vugar Usi Zade said that the deal will last two to three years and is worth eight figures. In other words, he confirmed a value over $10 million.
LaLiga is the soccer league that currently hosts star players like Mbappé, Vinícius Jr, and Lewandowski. Both parties are expected to gain from the partnership, with LaLiga gaining access to web3 solutions while the crypto exchange gains exposure. Javier Tebas, president of LALIGA said:
“Over the last decade, digitalization and innovation have been among LALIGA’s priorities. Last season, we made this a priority under the umbrella of our New Era, which put the emphasis on technology: we want to be pioneers and we are committed to it.”
As BitGet’s announcement points out, LaLiga has also experimented with artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), and big data to enhance performance analysis game strategy. The sports league also organized a conference on sport-applied AI back in 2023.
Octavi Anoro — director of International at LALIGA — explained that he views the partnership with BitGet as an important step in the league’s international expansion. He highlighted that “it shows the strategic importance of Asia and territories such as Turkey and LATAM.”
The announcement follows a BitGet report in June that cryptocurrency losses due to deepfake-related scams are expected to surpass $25 billion in 2024, more than doubling the previous year’s figures. The exchange’s research further highlighted a 245% increase in global deepfake incidents in 2024.
