If you have dropped out of Diablo IV somewhere over the last year and a half but have now been enticed back in with the arrival of the Vessel of Hatred expansion pack, you may be a bit out of the loop with how things have changed.
Vessel of Hatred continues the original main campaign story which you have likely finished, maybe you have even played a couple of extra seasons’ worth of content as well. But if you dropped out before finishing the actual campaign, we would advise, if only for lore and experience purposes, that you complete that before venturing into the Vessel of Hatred. You do you of course, you don’t have to if you can’t wait to play as the new Spiritborn class, but to get you up to date with the actual storyline it is for the best. Don’t forget, if you have not finished the original story, these days you can play it on Game Pass.
How to start the Vessel of Hatred expansion.
We are going to assume you have created a Seasonal Character rather than a new one in the Eternal Realm. They will always join you in Eternal once the season concludes anyway so you might as well get the Season 6: Hatred Rising rewards as you go along.
Before you start the game you will be presented with a pop-up box asking you to select the Campaign State, and this is the bit you need to pay attention to.
You will be given the option of starting with the Original campaign (do this if you are new or didn’t complete it), Start with the Vessel of Hatred Campaign – this will start you off as if the original campaign is done and dusted.
The final option is to start off with Vessel of Hatred completed and you definitely don’t want to do that at this point. That is for much further down the line.
Once you have confirmed your choice you will find yourself in Kyovoshad and for a second think that nothing has worked. Where is this jungle you promised me, Blizzard?
You should get a marker for the Cathedral of Light called Rekindled Faith and this will start off the Vessel of Hatred campaign content just like that.
VoH campaign quests will be marked in purple or yellow. The blue ones are Seasonal Content, which you can also dip in and out of, but this is not Vessel of Hatred stuff. Don’t get confused.
