Sassaman was unfortunately also troubled, having been diagnosed with depression when he was a teen. He ended up taking his life in the summer of 2011, and a memorial dedicated to him was then permanently included on the Bitcoin blockchain during the 2011 Black Hat Briefings conference.
The runner-ups are cryptographers Adam Back with 12.5%, Nick Szabo with 17.8 and Hal Finney with under 5%. The market also includes more than 10 other options with the one with the most votes being “other/multiple” with 40.5%.
