Fortnite’s annual Halloween scare-fest, Fortnitemares has become part of the gaming calendar at this stage but players are having to wait a little bit longer than usual after Epic has pulled the event at the last minute and delayed its launch.
The first Fornitemares event was as far back as 2017 but it seems the 2024 iteration has run into a few, hopefully, minor issues.
The official Fortnitestatuis X account first highlighted a problem a couple of hours ago when it posted, “While we continue final preparations for v31.40, we are delaying the start of downtime by a few hours.
We’ll provide another update when we plan to take Fortnite servers offline.”
This was then followed up recently with the news that Fortnitemares 2024 will not be going live as planned today, posting, “In order to ensure a properly frightful Fortnitemares, v31.40 will go into downtime on Saturday at 2 AM ET.
We apologize for the confusion and delay, and will let you know once the update is live.”

When is Fortnitemares 2024
And indeed confusion is rife with many websites already jumping the gun with guides on how to get the event’s various weapons, leading to anybody performing a search to find out what’s going on being met with a confusing mess of pages suggesting it is live when the update is yet to arrive.
Without any further delays Fortnitemares will now go live at 2 AM ET / 7 AM BST on Saturday 12th October. There is no news at this stage whether fans will get some kind of boost for the delay.
Fortnite has suffered sporadic problems throughout the year with its updates being delayed, often at the last minute leaving players glued to the official channels to find out what is going on.
We will update this story if Epic Games releases any further information on the situation.
