The long-running classic fighting game Fatal Fury first surfaced way back in 1991 but we haven’t had a new installment for some 26 years since Garou: Mark of the Wolves came out just before the turn of the Millennium.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves may have been a long time coming, but it appears that it may already have picked up some more modern gaming traits such as adding popular figures from real life into the make-believe universe of Tery Bogard and company.
With a move straight outta Fortnite it seems as though Fatal Fury may be getting fighting legend, er, Cristiano Ronaldo added to its roster, if an oblique post on X from CR7 himself is anything to go by.
Famous footballers are not new to video games outside of their lanes. We have seen the likes of Neymar and Messi in Call of Duty and even Erling Haaland in Clash of Clans.

There could however be more of a connection between Ronaldo and Fatal Fury that first appears however with the game’s publisher, the legendary SNK, being owned by a Saudi Arabian gaming company. In 2022 96% of the company was acquired by Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Electronic Gaming Development Company. Ronaldo of course these days plies his trade in the Kingdon, playing in the Saudi Pro League for Al Nassr.
Either way, Ronaldo’s X post exclaiming, “Something exciting in the making!” is accompanied by a video that includes the line, “ A legendary player joins a legendary game”, which certainly suggests people may soon be able to punch a virtual Ronaldo in the face.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is due to release on 21st April 2025 and the special edition is available to pre-purchase on Steam now and includes the following pre-order bonuses:, one of which may be CR7 if he is not included at launch.
