Black Ops 6 – what is Omnimovement?

Every year when a new game in the Call of Duty franchise is released the first topic on the table for long-term players is how the Operators move. Any change from the previous games is highlighted and discussed at length with pros and cons openly debated.

While experienced players will often try to ‘game’ the game by finding and using nuanced techniques such as slide canceling, players new to the game can still just jump in and learn the ropes quickly, while hopefully not getting frustrated.

With the arrival of Black Ops 6 Treyarch has moved to get ahead of the whole movement discussion by introducing the new Omnimovement system, but what is it? You may have heard that it’s coming, and you may even have had a chance to try it out in the first half of the multiplayer beta, but what difference will it bring to the long-running FPS franchise?

What is Omnimovement?

Previous Call of Duty games have generally restricted player movement to forwards. That is you need to be facing in the direction you want to travel in, be that running, sliding, or sprinting. Changing direction while doing any of the above would bring your Operator back to a walk, and probably a death.

Omnimovement will give players the ability to pull off any of the above moves in any direction, bringing with it a huge amount of unpredictability and creating havoc with muscle memory patterns the world over.

Whereas previously players would learn to counteract attacks by laying down fire ahead of enemies because that was where they would end up, now that is not the case and this little extra movement should make it more difficult to be hit, and indeed to hit other Operators who are using it correctly.

What is Intelligent Movement in Black Ops 6

Besides Omnimovement we also have Intelligent Movement which is a series of settings in the the menu that allows you to tell the game how you want it to behave under certain circumstances. You can, for example, tell the game you want to Mantle automatically and whether you want to Crouch without having to hit the button every time.

These will all take some getting used to but overall will provide a more rounded control setup that provides gameplay variation.
