AntStream Arcade is coming to PS4 and PS5 and bringing over 1,000 retro games to the consoles
The retro gaming subscription service AntStream Arcade is finally coming to PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles, bringing over 1,300 classic games to players for $39.99 annually (or $99.99 for a lifetime membership).
When AntStream launched in 2023, it was available exclusively on the PC and Xbox consoles, where it was well received and continued to grow its game catalog. This will be the first third-party cloud streaming service available through the PlayStation Store.
During AntStream’s Arcade Connect presentation on August 14, the company’s CEO Steve Cottam announced the service is coming to PlayStations. He did say it would be available immediately but as yet you can only wishlist AntStream in the PlayStation Store.
What is AntStream Arcade and how much is it?
For $40 a year you can get access to a library of over 1300 games which keeps growing might seem like a fantastic deal, but AntStream Arcade offers a lot more on top.
The service strives to foster a retro gaming community across its platform by hosting global world tournaments for games as well as weekly and daily challenges for players to compete. On top of the competition, AntStream supports couch co-op and tons of mini-games.
They are actively growing their library, and have begun to accept increasing numbers of indie games. There’s an open call on their website for indie developers to sign their retro games up to the service.
As well as the PlayStation launch, AntStream Connect was an opportunity for the company to highlight some games that will be added to the platform soon.
They will add two games from the PICO-8 Fantasy Console, a retro-inspired development platform. The games are Puzzles of the Paladin and Mad Bomber. These aren’t retro in the traditional sense as the PICO-8 is a modern platform, but they are retro-inspired and the PICO-8 has explicitly limited capabilities to emulate retro consoles.
Some more classic retro titles coming to the platform include Gun Force 2, Tiger Shark, and Doodle World.
